Bedfordshire chief receives CBE

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue’s Chief Fire Officer Paul Fuller has been made Commander of the British Empire (CBE) in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list.

CFO Fuller said, “I am hugely delighted and honoured to be recognised in this way, and I am grateful to all those people who supported the nomination. Although a great personal honour, this is also a well-deserved tribute to everyone in Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, the Chief Fire Officers Association and partners throughout the fire sector for the marvellous work they do to save and protect people’s lives.

Cllr David McVicar, Chairman of the Bedfordshire Fire Authority said: “Paul is a credit to the Fire Service both locally and nationally. We are delighted he has been recognised for his commitment and dedication to our service.

“In his time at Bedfordshire he has enabled us to reduce the numbers of fires significantly and kept us at the cutting edge of Fire and Rescue Services in terms of appliances, equipment and training as well as our work to reduce risk and work with Partners throughout our society.”

Paul Fuller is the first Bedfordshire Chief Fire Officer to be recognised by being made Commander of the British Empire, an award that reflects positively on the County of Bedfordshire.

Paul Fuller joined the Fire Service in 1978 and became Chief Fire Officer at Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service in February 2002 after a career with West Midlands, West Sussex, Staffordshire and Wiltshire Fire Services, including a secondment to Warwickshire in 2009.

He is a Fellow of the Institution of Fire Engineers, holds a Master of Science in Human Resources Management, a Bachelor of Science in Fire Safety Technology and Management.

He currently serves on a number of national bodies including Chair of CFOA Services Limited, Deputy Chair of Fire Sector Federation, CFOA past President and Trustee of the national charity the Children’s Burns Trust.

He is a Trustee of the Firefighters Charity, member of Bedfordshire St John County Priory Group, the Police Partnership Board and the Strategic Steering Group for the Regional and World Children’s Burns Camp, and Chair of the Bedfordshire and Luton Chief Executive Forum, as well as supporting local charities.

Chief Officer Fuller was awarded Queens Fire Service Medal for exemplary service in the Birthday Honours 2008 and was made a Freeman of the City of London in 2012.
